visited the nearby Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, home of the 12th Air
Force and 355th Wing. |

visit to Davis-Monthan included a tour of the AMARC’s mothball fleet,
preserved in open-air storage. Line-up included an F-14, F-100,
F-106 and an F-101. |

The morning of
Tuesday, October 16th found members of the Group gathering at the entrance
of the Doubletree Hotel, ready to depart by coach for a day trip down
south to Nogales, Mexico. |
|

En route to Nogales,
the Group visited the Mission San Xavier del Bac, which has been
recognised as the finest example of mission architecture in the United
States. |

lunch, there was time for a stroll around Nogales. |

On October 17th, the
Group visited the University of Arizona to view the New Large Binocular
Telescope Project. |

The
Group was briefed by the project manager, Dr. John Hill, and viewed an
introductory presentation. |
